FAAIE Year in Review: Celebrating Milestones and Community Engagement in 2023
As we bid farewell to the year 2023, the Filipino-American Association of the Inland Empire (FAAIE) reflects on a year filled with significant achievements, community partnerships, and memorable events. Led by President Karsevar, this year has been marked by the establishment of our very first physical office since our inception in 1986. π’π΅π
April: Opening Doors to a New Chapter πͺπ In a historic moment for FAAIE, April witnessed the grand opening of our physical office. The Open House and Ribbon Cutting ceremony were graced by the presence of esteemed guests, including Mayor Nadine Woodward, Councilman Michael Cathcart, and various community leaders, alongside our dedicated members. ππ₯
Partnership with Philippine Consulate of San Francisco π€π Breaking new ground, FAAIE collaborated with another organization to host the services of the Philippine Consulate of San Francisco. Led by Vice-consul Adrian Baccay, this three-day outreach at Mirabeau Park Hotel marked the first time in Spokane’s history that such services were made available, serving hundreds of fellow Filipinos. π΅πβ¨ https://pcgsanfrancisco.org/ph-consulate-in-sf-visits-spokane-valley-washington-for-first-ever-consular-outreach-in-the-inland-northwest/
Cultural Showcases and Participations ππ Throughout the year, FAAIE actively participated in local community events, showcasing our rich Filipino culture through the vibrant performances of our Silangan Dancers. From the Lilac Parade to Unity in the Community, Refugee Day, Valleyfest, Adobo y’ Mas, Feast Fest, Fall Folk Festival, and Tea Festival, our dancers brought the beauty of Flores De Mayo tradition to diverse audiences. πΊπΆ
Community Classes and Outreach Drives π€ΈββοΈπ¨ The establishment of our physical location enabled us to host various classes for our members, including Zumba, Line Dancing, Tai Chi, Taebo, and arts and crafts. Furthermore, FAAIE organized multiple drives to raise goods and funds, providing assistance to those affected by the Gray and Oregon fires who lost their homes. π€²π₯
Pista sa Nayon and Festive Celebrations ππ΄ In September, FAAIE’s annual Pista sa Nayon at MLK Community Center was a resounding success, thanks to the support of the City of Spokane Cultural Grant and Friendly Island Grill. The event celebrated the diverse cultures of the Philippines, featuring performances and games based on the three main islands. ποΈπ
Year-End Celebrations ππ As the year drew to a close, FAAIE continued to spread joy and camaraderie. Halloween brought a festive Zumba session at our Bayanihan office, and in November, we dedicated a day to honor and appreciate our invaluable volunteers. The year culminated in a snowy yet heartwarming Christmas party on December 2nd at MLK Community Center. Attendees enjoyed elections, the beloved Feliz Navidad performance by Silangan Dancers, games, a visit from Santa, and a delightful feast. π π
Organizational πΆ Music π΅πΌ FAAIE established the Bayanihan Rondalla, under the leadership of Brian and Catherine Kamp, in collaboration with the Rondalla Spokane Foundation. Comprising committed members, the Bayanihan Rondalla, directed by Queeny Ravinera, breathes life into folk music. They debuted with a captivating performance at the FAAIE Christmas party, which was warmly received by the audience.
Nurturing Creativity with Youth π¨π§π§ In the spirit of giving, FAAIE’s youth members ended the year on a creative note with a Christmas Card Making class. The youth showcased their artistic talents in a heartwarming celebration of community and creativity. πποΈ
As we reflect on these milestones and moments, FAAIE is grateful for the support of our members, partners, and the Spokane community. We look forward to continuing our mission in the coming year, fostering cultural exchange, community engagement, and creating lasting memories together. Here’s to a wonderful year past and a promising future ahead! ππ€π
